ETA: My God, the formatting issues! *stabs LJ*. Let's try that again, without the randomly interrupted paragraphs and missing text.
ETA 2: Yes, it's in bold. And it'll stay that way because I've given up. This is the last time I use rich text!
I have had the most awesome seven days I can remember having in... years, possibly.
It went like this:
Thursday. My housemates moved out, finally! I am now a sole home owner, I can sprawl throughout the entire house, and all the crap they kept in the common areas has gone. Mine, all mine! It's a little bit sad... but mostly fantastic. And I've seen them a couple of times since, and it was actually really good to see them, rather than 'meh, you again?' like it has been lately. So, success on the home front.
And then I went to the airport to meet
naye . I was pleased to discover that, like DC,
naye is exactly as awesome in RL as on LJ. We spent our day getting hopelessly, amusingly lost, geeking out at Forbidden Planet, and seeing London. Then we went to our hotel and met up with
villainny . I didn't know
villainny from LJ stalking like I know
naye and
unadrift , but quickly grew to adore her for being fun and hilarious, and cracking me up with well timed silences around waiters. Also for wearing a cracktastic t-shirt with a picture of a rainbow and a unicorn. We all went back to mine and
naye 's room to watch SGA 501, to avoid any unwanted spoilers at the Hewlett thing on Saturday. It was the most fun I have ever had watching a TV show - there was much arm-grabbing and flailing and squeeful exclamations. I want to import them all for every episode! Stayed up way too late, again... but didn't mind at all.
Saturday. Had a picnic breakfast with the guys, and belatedly made it to the Hewlett thing - we only had to go about 100 metres from where we were sleeping, so how come we were practically the last ones there?! David and Kate were fabulous and funny, and we really did pay to listen to them bicker. It was so worth it! And not just for them, but for the atmosphere of being amongst fellow fans and how every overheard conversation was marvellously fannish.
naye wrote up a hugely detailed con report, and
villainny 's got a shorter but also awesome one, and I have nothing to add to those, except to agree that it was a fun, fun day. And I met
torakowalski , whose writing I love and who was cool - although we kept missing each other... this time! I'm feeling very at-one with my fannish nature. I want to meet up with everyone again, and soon.
After dinner with
villainny , we bade her farewell and headed back to my place in Nottingham, for an evening of vids and Dr Who (What?!) and another insanely late night. My sleep deprivation was secondary to my over-excitement, but it did manifest enough that I couldn't match
naye 's intelligent insights into our fannish pursuits - I was all, 'bwuh? Pretty!' which... well. Or maybe it wasn't the sleep deprivation - I've never had fannish conversations in RL before and actually found myself lacking the vocabulary from time to time. When I think about fic or vids I like, I don't tend to have a smart meta dialogue with myself, I just remember how it made me feel and how much I enjoyed it. Which is hard to articulate. But it was a lot of fun watching vids and hearing why
naye and
unadrift loved them - I was fascinated.
Sunday. Another awesome day, just us, our fandoms, and general geekery. We had multiple technology failures, but still managed to watch a ton of shows and vids. Plus,
naye didn't asphyxiate, which is a bonus.
Monday. We went to visit my puppy, Dex. Naye took a load of photos, up here on her LJ, but here are some more just for the fun of it - you can never have too many puppy pics, right? After the pup, we took Naye back to the airport. Suck! We have to do it again, you hear me naye? We have to!
unadrift and I headed back to my place, where I showed her the first episodes of Red Dwarf, Queer as Folk and... um, something else? Something awesome? I can't remember. We geeked out and had a long fanfic conversations. We've exchanged hundreds of emails this year, and having the same kind of conversations, but in RL was exhilerating. I mean, email's all well and good, but RL? Sometimes it rocks. &hearts
Also, my laptop arrived, and I love it greatly. I can now geek out downstairs on the sofa!
Tuesday. I had to say goodbye to
unadrift and then it was back home to my empty, quiet house. I suddenly realised that I was exhausted. I hadn't slept more than 5 hours in a night since... Wednesday? Tuesday? I got some chores done, and then I crashed, hard.
Wednesday. Needing some excitement in my dull, boring life, I went and got myself a kitten. Yep. A kitten. I'd been planning to get one at some point this month, but yesterday, I decided, was the day. She's nameless so far, and 8 weeks old (oddly, the same age as Dex, to the day) and gorgeous. I am in love!
I had a choice of a litter of seven. They were all beautiful, but the one I chose was the most inquisitive and friendly. And it's totally paid off - she's very affectionate and bold, and purrs a lot for something so tiny. I've been a hermit since I brought her home - I've barely left the living room, just hanging out with the kitten. I even slept in here, because she'd probably get crushed by an arc welder or something in my bedroom (don't ask) and I'm a total sap. She just spent 2 hours hanging out between a duvet and a sofa, curled up asleep, but now she's sitting in my lap, chewing my bracelet, and interfering with my ability to type. ♥
I totally owe
naye and
unadrift emails, but I was hoping to buy them off for tonight with some kitty pictures:
So... I've had a bit of an overdose of squee this past week. It has been awesome.
Kitty needs a name... any ideas??

Date: 2008-07-05 05:09 pm (UTC)And - hmm. Have you tried just adding a final </lj-cut> to the thing? Because when I do that to the text I sent you, it posts clean! And that's with your original cut.

Date: 2008-07-05 04:59 pm (UTC)It was FANTASTIC. Really was. You guys were both - incredibly awesome, and I had a blast talking fannish things and you were just like your LJs only BETTER. ♥
And then the puppies ate my soul. And now you've got KITTY, too! And kitten and puppy playing and I melt. Really, I do.
But kitty still needs a name? Hmmm. I'm very weird with names, but - Merry? She does look a little like a Merry, to me. Or something else that I can't think of right now... But I'll think about it.

Date: 2008-07-05 09:23 pm (UTC)I had such a fantastic time. And I loved being with people who know me for me, rather than as one part of the ex-household - you can relate, huh? &hearts. And you guys really do know me - fandom obsessions and all! &hearts

Oh, yes, absolutely! That was - really relieving, actually. And it was so weird, and so much fun to match
