Some thoughts as I watched through the episode for the second time today:
Are the pack still chained up in the train?
"He looks EVIL!" Oh Stiles, your instincts are the best instincts.
Ok, I don't really like Dr Deaton. His Watchering is so half-assed. And his pep talk: 'Peter's going to prey on your insecurities, btw you're incompetent', what? I mean, fair point. But. They need a grown up and Deaton could maybe have BEEN that grown up, but he's more interested in giving out information in tiny, semi-useless packets. He is annoying!
THIS EPISODE IS SO TENSE, I DON'T EVEN.
I have some things to say about Stiles and his dad. So, Stilinski claims that he trusts Scott over Stiles, and I just don't buy that. He knows who the brains are of their duo, he knows that the restraining order was against them both, he knows Scott well enough to know that he's a bit of an idiot: he has literally no reason to trust Scott's opinion over Stiles's. I think he's just mad at Stiles and it was a parental disappointment thing. He's less disappointed in Scott, so he's not going to punish him quite like he's going to punish Stiles. And, he shouts Scott's name before he shouts for Stiles when he hears the gunshot, and that suggests to me that he thinks Scott is the one who's more likely to get himself hurt. I don't think he thought about it, I think that was just his instinctive response - to assume that if something lethally stupid just went down then Scott was probably involved over Stiles. Unrelated: I love that he's still wearing his wedding ring.
I've seen people complain that Matt's motivation was weak, but I don't think it is. The PTSD/repression angle works for me. It's a human reason, and yes, some people might react in a really strong way to that kind of trauma, if they didn't get any support for it... And, ugh, I bet Isaac heard 'TELL NO ONE!' quite a few times, too. :(((
SCOTT YOU ARE A FUCKING POTATO. You are on probation, kid.
Could they be any more obvious about the mysterious pillbox of mystery?! Just freaking tell us what it is! Gerard creeps me out so much that I almost can't watch his scenes, especially with the way he's manipulating poor Allison.
Ok, Matt's murder was DARK. :(
But Peter is HOT, so I feel better.
If Mr Stilinski gets some bullshit retrograde-concussion-amnesia I will NOT BE HAPPY. I want him to knoooow!
I am having Derek/Peter feels, today. Derek's a mess of insecurity and pain, and I can imagine him being near the point where he will trust Peter just because he's the evil he knows, and he needs SOMEONE. And he's apparently too much of a donut to realise that Stiles is the one he should be trusting, so.

Date: 2012-07-31 03:26 pm (UTC)I kind of ship Dr. Deaton/Derek, though, because god knows Derek is probably into people with poor opinions of him.
Where's Lydia? Maybe she's back at the train and let them all out. Or Isaac figured out a way out as soon as the full moon was over.
I think Stilinski doesn't really think that Scott's capable of being canny (which he isn't), and he knows that Stiles is way too clever for his own good on like every level. I think he might really think that Stiles is dragging Scott into idiocy instead of the obvious Stiles trying to clean up after Scott's bad luck potato. He's about to learn that Stiles has been taking brave responsibility for helping a friend in a bad situation and then he will be proud and then they will hug and Stiles will cry good tears. Right?
God, Mr. Lahey is actually one of the big bads this season in how his choices kind of resonate through everyone's lives, isn't he? And he was just an abusive person, no monsters required.
Seriously, I am convinced that Gerard is repressing lycanthropy, which makes him making Victoria kill herself into SUCH a dick move. Also, you've got me shipping Derek/Peter and now I can never stop.
(TEEN WOLF!).

Re: Mr Lahey, yes! I was actually going to say something about that, because, for someone with so little screen time, he has had a huge impact. AN EVIL IMPACT.
I said a couple of weeks ago that I thought it was actually wolf!Gerard who bit Victoria. Because, Derek was kinda busy with Scott at the time, and sick himself, and I don't really see his motivation to bite her (he can't go round biting everyone who pisses him off) - he just needed to get away. Whereas Gerard can use Victoria's death to his own advantage, to get Allison onto their side of the fight.
I have got 2 hours before I need to go out and am seriously considering getting a notebook and plotting out a post episode Derek/Peter fic. I can't quite get it started right in my head, but it is right on the cusp of my brain....

YESSS! \o/

Date: 2012-07-31 04:25 pm (UTC)Dude, do it. Consider Derek's faaaaaace when he realizes Scott has betrayed him! And that Peter has just found Gerard's secret and can offer him a real plan to fix their problems! And is evil! And comforting! And smells wolfily familiar, prolly!

Date: 2012-07-31 04:32 pm (UTC)Yes! I think the wolfy familiarity would be a big thing in my Derek/Peter world. I don't even know any more how much of the scent obsession is fanon/canon anymore, but I bet Peter smells of family to Derek. If his choices are to go back to the train car and unchain some bitchy betas (who will not be happy!) or to go and mope in his house, where everything is familiar and masochistically comforting, I think Derek might choose his house. AND GUESS WHO HE WOULD FIND THERE.

Date: 2012-07-31 05:35 pm (UTC)There is a lot of wolf business that I think is mostly fanon, but in season 1 Scott was always tracking people by smell, so I think the smell thing is totally passable. I think that's going to be what basically all the Sterek episode tags are going to be about, that Derek got all Stiles-smelly while they were on the floor.
